The Early Bird Catches the Easter Egg

The Early Bird Catches the Easter Egg
We set off early on Friday morning for several reasons - we could (early rising not a problem here), the sun was out and at that stage who knew for how long and G had to work in the afternoon. Why did we pick Robert Burns Birthplace Museum? It looked wonderful on the website and A had 'studied' Burns at school and had really, really enjoyed it so we knew he would get a lot out of it. Also the Treasure Island theme looked fun and a little different. (There's only so much egg-citement you can take.)
It didn't disappoint though finding the clues definitely required family input since they were small laminated circles tied to things (not a spoiler!) throughout the Burns sites (Brig o' Doon, Auld Kirk, Poets Path, the Cottage, the museum and the (big) monument which looks slightly out of place). But it was a great way to explore the village. All around families were discussing clues, enjoying face-painting and taking part in arts and crafts too. We'll definitely go back to see more of the museum and enjoy the sites, particularly the museum garden and the playpark. For what it is worth, we were pleased that we had headed off early - the queues were huge!
Note: if you do the trail, your child/children may be entitled to a hot chocolate but only if an adult buys some food/drink. It wasn't made clear on Friday that this was the case.
Nice touch: the volunteers who run these sorts of events were all dressed up in pirate gear!
